WHAT Is CLD?
Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Professional Development is a teacher’s education course developed by Stephanie Dewing and Mary Hanson. They have worked together for many years and are committed to helping equip teachers with the tools and strategies necessary to make a difference in the lives and academic success of their students. Their ability to support teachers has been expanded by being named official Colorado Department of Education approved English Learner professional development providers.

It was a study abroad trip to Granada, Spain that sparked Stephanie's interest in language and culture and there was no turning back. She started her teaching career in Quito, Ecuador where she spent 2 years teaching at a K-12 bilingual school and local University. Upon returning to the U.S., Stephanie taught English and Spanish for many years in a variety of contexts, both K-12 and post-secondary education. In addition, since 2003, Stephanie has worked to support pre-service and in-service teachers with creative and innovative ways to meet the needs of their culturally and linguistically diverse learners in the classroom and beyond.
